Etymology

The term 'Caucasian' originated in the late 18th century when German philosopher Johann Friedrich Blumenbach classified humans into five distinct races, one of which he named the 'Caucasian race'. Blumenbach believed that the people from the Caucasus region had the most attractive physical features, and thus he used the term to refer to all Europeans. Over time, the term has evolved to refer to people of European, North African, Western Asian, and South Asian descent.
