Etymology
The word 'adrenaline' originated in the early 20th century, formed from 'ad-' (prefix meaning near or at) + 'renal' (related to the kidneys) + '-ine' (a suffix denoting a chemical substance). It was first identified and isolated in the adrenal glands in 1901 by Japanese-American biochemist Jokichi Takamine.
