Etymology
The invention of the paperclip cannot be attributed to a single person, as similar devices have been used throughout history. The modern design of the paperclip was patented by Johan Vaaler in 1899, although it is debated whether he was the true inventor. Paperclips have since become a ubiquitous office supply item used worldwide.
